Job Title: Sessional Support Worker

Location: Cardiff & Carmarthen

Calon Cymru Fostering is one of the leading independent fostering agencies in South and West Wales. We work in close partnership with local authorities to identify and meet the needs of their children, and provide safe, secure placements.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Sessional Support worker to engage in direct, focused work with children – to build positive relationships with the child, to model acceptable behaviour and help the child to trust and feel safe with adults.

Requirements:

• Willing to work flexible hours, including non-office hours and at weekends
• Hold a full UK Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes
• Willing to undertake an enhanced DBS
• Experience within child care
• An understanding of challenging behaviours and trauma
• A good understanding of the needs of looked after children

Responsibilities:

• To meet at an agreed frequency one to one with the young people and offer support as they become established in their foster placements
• To provide a positive role model to young people and promote and shape appropriate behaviour using prompting and reinforcement.
• To work with the Team around the child to target identified problem areas in behavioural and social functioning
• To provide one to one support to young people on the programme within the community in a recreational context to promote and practice pro-social behaviour and problem-solving skills.
• To communicate a positive regard for the young person in order to build and sustain a sound relationship with them.
• To identify and support the young person’s strengths and individual interests.
• To enable and support the young people to participate in recreational and leisure activities.
• To promote safety and assess risks associated with the young person’s behaviours and activities in the community under the direction of the Support Services Manager
• To encourage the young person’s engagement with their care plan and goals.

• To demonstrate high levels of resilience, patience and perseverance when working with children and young people who have experienced high levels of trauma in their lives.
